Doing this massage therapy over the last 12 years has opened up some very interesting thoughts and observations.  Often while working on say a jumper, curiously the owner/rider exhibited similar issues, pain or complaints.  For instance, sore lower back, neck tension and stiffness even leg and shoulder pain.  How and what would cause this : coincidence or???  Most horse people might agree that we often inherit from or give our horses the identical issues they   or we are experiencing at any given time in our lives.  I won’t get into the reasons or ideas why  I believe this happens just that it does and  I have seen it time and time again and experienced it first hand.  From emotional to physical issues our animal friends sense and seem to absorb our pain or issues at times.   Take for instance our balance and when it is off it affects our body physically and also our horse. Put too much weight on the front right part of our saddle and that will throw off balance the right side arm and possibly shoulder of our horse.  I can almost guarantee that it will cause your horse to be OFF on that same side and the front extremity ( arm & shoulder).  So pay attention to your balance in the saddle and your emotional state that you bring with you the next time you ride.   If you are on a regular basis  feeling sore on say your right side of your neck, check your horse’s neck on that side or have someone who knows the muscular anatomy of horses check it for you.  I would be interested to hear your stories.  Deborah P.S. This is a beautiful video of Shay The Friesian meeting McCloud The Arabian for the first time. I was sitting in the pasture and called to Shay, grabbed the camera and was lucky to get this super video of the Big Black and White Horse running together like old friends and just plain showing off!

Equine Sports Massage Therapy for Colic . Cordobes is an 8 year old gelding.  He was massaged on a regular basis for 3 years every other month. Cordobes had been shown by his previous owner, but the owner I worked for was only doing trail rides .  Cordobes did not have any chronic issues to help and his massages were geared to prevent injuries and keep him sound.  One summer we found him in a colic state and the Vet was called immediately.  While waiting for the Vet to arrive, I applied massage and acupressure along the meridians and their respective points which influence stomach, intestines etc….  The results were amazing and certainly helped alleviate the horse’s pain until the Vet arrived.  Southern Florida is hard on horses for colic from sand and heat so it was great to have an avenue to assist with his situation.  After this I applied the same meridian therapy with my massage session for Cordobes and he did not colic again.  Equine Sports Massage Therapy is an  adjunct to proper Veterinarian care.  Learn this application along with many others from Deborah at one of  Equitherapies clinics.

Horse Poem

I found this on the web and thought others might like it.  Enjoy!

Forever Free

Of all the things I’ve ever seen,
Of all the dreams I’ve ever dreamed,
The finest sight that’s come to me,
White horses wild beside the sea

They ran across the trackless sandDeb & Shay omoksee may 09
In that remote, forgotten land,
And in their running they were free
Beside the boundless, unchained sea.

They raced the first light of the day
And surged across a shallow bay
To feed at ease in grassy plains
With wind alone to groom their manes.

No barn or stable was their home.
No one could govern where they roamed.
They galloped on the fenceless tracts
With no ones burden on their backs.

And each swift horse was nature’s child
At home on land forever wild,
And each wild horse was meant to be
At home on land forever free.
